GLAMTREND: It's Minty this Spring!

The mint color is hot for spring.

It is one of the very safe colors to put on as it doesn't require excess worry on how it should be combined. It is also a color for the fun fashionista who wants to add some flavor to his or her wardrobe.

GLAMTREND: The Tea-Length Dress/Midi Skirt

The 70's tea- length trend is a hot one right now.

I especially love this trend because it helps channel a lady's inner girly, classy look. It seems very easy to wear but it is actually not. The skirt must be paired with the right top, shoes and jewellery.

GLAMTRENDS: The Double Wrap Belt!

This is one trend I'm not sure would fade away because it is back again.

It's a very simple but edgy piece that can transform any outfit, be it the form-fitting short/long gowns, floral/flowy dresses, rompers, jumpsuits, cardigans, blazers etc. into a stunning ensemble.

GLAMTRENDS: On the 2012 #Oscars Red Carpet!

I am a fan of fabulous trends and a lot were seen at this year's #Oscars. There were the jewel tones, the monochromes and the embellishments.

Who Glammed it up best?

In this segment of the blog, we look into how fabulous pieces straight from the runway have been worn/rocked by fashion enthusiasts. See the first here.

This time around, we are looking at two stunning ladies; music diva, Jennifer Lopez and the very cute Julianne Hough (Ryan Seacrest's girlfriend and former "Dancing With the Stars" pro).

They slug it out in this Rachel Zoe Fall 2011 tuxedo dress. I particularly love this dress 'cos of the chic yet flirty feel it has to it, leaving you very curious of what could actually be going on inside. *wink*. It also allows more than enough exposure of their lovely, well-toned gams.

I call this "sexy in sophistication".

                                    Model

J.Lo, 42, goes all-white, paired with a silver shimmery clutch and sunglasses.

Julianne Hough, 23, prefers to rock it just like the model but with her hair down

Talking about two generations in the same fashion. Love!

So, who glammed it up best peeps?

Who Glammed it up best?

I am really passionate about fashion and always love to see people rock their outfits.

This series starts up with two strong ladies in the entertainment business but in different sectors: Reality TV and Music.
They are both fashion icons in their respective ways and have rocked a certain dress straight from the runway. They did justice to the dress differently, though I have my favorite, but I want to know your thoughts on it.

Salvatore Ferragamo's Houndstooth dress from the 2011 Fall collection (Runway).

Kim Kardashian in the same dress but paired with a black clutch, a pair of black shoes and my favorite, the red lipstick. This is a safe way of wearing the houndstooth dress, because it has more than enough characters on it and you don't want to look like a drag queen.

Lady Gaga opts to look like the runway model pairing it with a chunky neck piece, houndstooth clutch, hat, sunglasses, shoes, her left leg, all Ferragamo. This is where I ask: Was she the model for the collection's ad campaign? This really hurts the eyes.

So my beautiful glammies, what do you think?

GLAMTREND: The Smokey Eye

SMOKEY EYE....
is a great way to make a statement with the eyes. It has always been in fashion, but this year, it is as big as ever.
The magic behind this trend's popularity is that the smokey eyes can change your face/look completely and can dramatically transform the home girl into a stylish goddess. You don't need to have a big or bright eye to create this fabulous look.

HOW TO GET THIS LOOK IN 10mins...
  • Before you begin, prepare the face; you do this by using a good face wipe.
  • Choose the right colors to create your smokey image.
  • Prepare the eyelid.
The major key to a flawless make up and also to keeping your eye shadows from melting into your crease (the middle of the eye) as the day goes on is to keep the lids oil free. To achieve this, start off with an eye shadow base also know as primer. It holds your eye shadow the whole day and prevents it from melting. Bear in mind that it is not an eye shadow, but an eye shadow base. It is usually colorless or slightly tinted.

  • Apply eyeliner
Whichever color you are going for; may be a black, green, brown or grey smokey eye, apply liner in any of  the color hues you want, preferably black, above the upper lash line, making the line thicker in the middle of the eye.

  • Blend in color on bottom lash
Blending is a major part of any make up. For colors on the bottom (a major smokey eye look) you will want to use a lighter liner like grey or brown. After applying the liner, the key is to smudge it to give a soft but edgy smokey effect. You can also apply a bit of shadow to get full smudge effect and the only part of the eyes that you smudge is the bottom/lower lash.

  • Apply a light shade eye shadow
A nice cream shade would do. Sweep a light, shimmery shadow over the lids to your brow bone.

  • Blend in darker color
Now that you have the light shade eye shadow and black eyeliner on, its time to get that smokey effect. You need a darker eye shadow shade. Using an eye shadow brush, blend in color starting from your lash line, upwards. Make sure to blend into the lash line so the black eyeliner disappears. Stop deep color at crease and bear in mind that the liner comes before the eye shadow in both the upper lash and the bottom/lower lash. Finish with several coats of mascara to give volume to the lash and you have the perfect smokey eye look, transforming the home girl to a stylish goddess.

GLAMFASHION: Illusion Dressing

I have always believed fashion to be fun, edgy, sexy and at the same time experimental but, there is nothing like feeling comfortable and still having fun with your outfit.

I am one who is really not particular about the trends, but, I totally love this one. It has always been there but a lot of people have not 'keyed' into it but I am glad it is gradually being embraced. It's called the Illusion Dressing.

The reason I love this trend is because it is not only about looking slimmer, but can also mean adding weight to certain areas in order to create that balance. That's where the name 'illusion' comes from. It's about a print, pattern or stripe that's printed on the garment in order to create the optical illusion, making people see what you want them to see.

The secret is just being aware of your body type and getting the right pieces that will help create the illusion you desire.

The Tricks:
  • Pick the right colors
  • Look for shoes with medium/high heels
  • Put your money in great underwear
  • Most importantly, choose the right fit

                                                        Kate Winslet in Stella McCartney
                                                                A Herve Leger dress
                                                           Rita Dominic
                                                           Kylie Minogue
                                                        Victoria Beckham
                                                            Stephanie Okereke

                                                             T-shirt with 'built-in' necklace
                                                             Genevieve Nnaji

For that tricky look, get an optical illusion piece today. It's all about the patterns.

It works.

GLAMTREND: Color Blocking

This has really caught the attention of so many this season. It might surprise people to know that it is not a new trend as such but is definitely back with a big bang.

Need to know more? Read on.......

What is the color blocking / Color Block?

Color block fashion is one of the hottest new trends for the season. It combines the use of two or more blocks of color in an ensemble. This could be for a top, bottom, tunic, a dress and even a handbag or shoes. Simply it means – creating an outfit by putting areas or blocks of solid color next to each other. It can include monotone, bright colors, muted colors, contrasting and complimentary colors. Clothes, shoes, handbags and accessories can all feature color block designs or can make up different blocks of color to be put together for a color block outfit.

The famous Lady Dior bag also follows the trend and a Marc Jacobs color blocked bag

And of course color blocked make-up

And to test your guts, color blocked hair

Why do you need to be careful while following the color block trend?
Since they often involve the use of bright colors or many different colors together, it is easy to go wrong with it. The best way to pair color block trends whether it’s for shoes, a tunic or a top is with other basic colors such as black, white, brown and gray. This way your color block will pop out more and look more polished.

Why should you do the trend?
If you have been lapping up fashion news regularly, you will know how horribly ‘in’ it is. And if you still need another convincing reason to wear the trend. Here’s it – Use it to hide flaws of your body. I have your full attention now, don’t I? Women after all.
So what I was saying is, use it to hide flaws, as we all know dark colors have a slimming effect, so color-block the winter paunch or those baby fatty arms with dark shades and keep the rest of your outfit light colored. It really works.

Basically this is how it will work for your body
A darker column of color down the torso will have a slimming effect and can easily be created by wearing a colored cardigan, jacket or blouse worn open. Generally a color blocked outfit will work best if you stick to the usual rules for your body shape. If you are pear shaped, opt for darker colors on the bottom half. If you are apple shaped avoid horizontal blocks of color around the stomach area but highlight legs with color blocks created by brightly colored tights. If you are hourglass, a color block around the waist is a great way of highlighting it and drawing attention to you womanly figure.

Just keep in mind the following points while wearing color blocks
  • Don’t be shy to experiment. Any color combination is fantastic if you can pull it off properly. Blue, green and orange sounds mad but will look oh-so-pretty.
  • Do not combine more than three to four colors. It’s not that it doesn’t look nice, but it looks very ‘ramp’ish. Moreover more colors will keep cutting your body shape here and there making it a not so beautiful sight.
  • Choose what you want to color block and keep the rest of your look simple. For example, if you opt for a color-blocked bag, go easy on the clothes and shoes. You don’t want to look like a Rubik cube, do you??
  • Never ever ever combine two color blocked items. This is the worst thing to do to this trend. No actually you can, its just that you will end up looking like the latest catalog of Asian paints.
color blocking trend clothes
In my opinion it is really fun trend to sport this summer. Firstly it gives us the opportunity to pair colors which we won’t dare to combine together otherwise. Secondly what are summers without cheerful bright colors?? Gone is the season of muted warm shades. Its time to paint the town in all colors possible.
So, go on and have fun blocking colors. Do let us know how you plan to wear it.
Stay stylish. :*

THE POWER COLOR: ORANGE

Since the trends this season are all about the vibrant and bright colors, I bring to you the least popular of them all, THE ORANGE.

Most people shy away from wearing this hue because it is thought to be too loud. This is one power color that can be worn in a feat to be noticed, yet, without screaming. It is such that surely demands attention and must be worn right.

Orange is a combination of two very energetic colors: Red and Yellow, which all share common attributes such as warmth and energy. It is the color of fun and sociability. So if you are thinking of going on that date, to that event, that beach, THE ORANGE is for all.

It is not really advisable to put on orange from head to toe, which brings me to stating a few colors which could be worn so beautifully with orange.
  • First up is the color BLUE.
Pairing with the color blue, is one of the best ways to rock orange. A lovely short orange dress goes perfectly with blue shoes OR an orange chiffon top with a short blue skirt.

  • GOLD
This happens to be one of the easiest colors to pair with. Be it a belt, jewellery or footwear, you could never go wrong pairing it up with orange.

  • PURPLE
I so much adore this color. It is one that speaks confidence. Imagine pairing a purple gown, be it short or maxi with an orange jacket and vice versa......... FABULOUS!!!
                                                 Thanks Jessica.

So be it the coral, pumpkin or burnt orange in either shoes, bags or dresses, it is such a beautiful color which everyone should have in his/her closet.

Remember, you can always get people thinking or talking with the color, ORANGE.

Is Orange your best color yet?
